Escape to Argentina

Made it! Crazy dash for the airport bus with the office phone still ringing, Paris at tea-time, woke up over the Amazon and now here we are in a very chi-chi caff in the trendy area of Buenos Aires having French Toast. Which in Spanish is ‘French Toast’, apparently.

All we’ve seen of BA so far is the inside of a taxi (trying not to look at the proximity of the other cars and lorries), inside of our hotel and a couple of streets in the Palermo area. As Alan demonstrates we have a special orange Halloween-themed room.

This area is full of designer clothing shops, cafes and delis. A big contrast with some of the areas we went through on the way from the airport though. Hotel staff seem really friendly and knowledgeable, showing us maps of the city, giving restaurant recommendations and booking anything we want.

Alan got very excited as he has already spotted some new birds from his ‘Birds of Argentina and Uruguay’ book. At the airport. Sigh… for anyone who cares, they were some sort of martin or swallows and a hawk.

So what’s on the cards for Buenos Aires? A little light sight-seeing and a snooze this afternoon then we will break out the tango shoes I think.

We’re here until Tuesday then off to Patagonia for a bit of glacier-stomping and wildlife-spotting. Looking forward to the heated yurt in a lenga forest. I hope my expectations of ‘glamping’ aren’t too high.

Adios amigos.
